OCTOBER 1-15

"The face is for me an endless source of inspiration. Even when I paint a landscape or a still nature, somewhere, somehow in a corner I will put a little person. The human being is that landscape where society mirrors its content. If you want to penetrate the weather, look at people. One look can answer all the where, how, when and why."

Figurative painting. An exhibition focusing on people and human relationships through the prism of Marina Krontiras will have the opportunity to visit the public at the Municipal Gallery of Corfu in the framework of the International Festival of Corfu from 1 to 15 October.

With the face as the main component of her inspiration, she presents 10 black and white works of large dimensions (230X100) depicting figures. Figures static, figures moving in the landscape, interacting with each other. Faces and bodies that mirror society, time and any other question that may arise. 10 black and white works included in BACK TO BLACK, created exclusively with ink and paper, exuding immediacy and realism.

However, the exhibition also includes a second section of works, entitled CONNECTIONS, which have been created especially for the exhibition at the Corfu International Festival. Four brand new works, oil on canvas, which capture the colour continuity and connection with the drawings.

"I love the large dimensions, but the tyranny of the small, where you have to end up in constant physical and intellectual-artistic concentration, also appeals to me. I observe: faces and looks of direction, constant suggestion, no information about environment or place, except for some stairs. It could be everywhere, the existential crisis, despair, danger or transgression."

A work that emerges from an approach full of empathy and emphasis on the inner world, inviting us to observe the people around us with a different look, while keeping the immediacy and realism of the situation at hand.
