FRANZ SCHUBERT'S WINTER JOURNEY

Franz Schubert's great work of 'Winter Journey' will be presented on Sunday, 20 November, at the Corfu International Festival.

The work tells a fascinating story of a winter traveller with the thought of death at its core. Through this "journey", his experiences and his psychological transitions, narrated in the individual songs, he is finally led to reconciliation with the end and with the loneliness that governs him. The hero is hurt, matures, becomes afraid, and grows up.

Its composition is far from accidental, given that it was written at a time when Franz Schubert was very ill with serious health implications for him worldwide.

It is a landmark work as it is considered a defining work for the later structure, technique and style of chamber music, stamping its mark on Romantic European composition.

The work is performed by the internationally renowned lyric artist Dimitris
Tiliakos, accompanied by the outstanding piano soloist, Vassilis Varvaressos (prizes in international competitions -Piccoli Mozart, Young Concert Artists, George Enescu, among others -fellowship at the Julliard School of Music in New York, from which he received a Master's degree, as well as a PhD -PhD Musical Arts).
