The Corfu International Festival will host the painting exhibition of the artist Amanda Galal called "Stories of Struggle and Survivor" at the Prisons of the Old Fortress 21-31 October.

Grand opening on Saturday 21 October at 12:00.

The exhibition of Amanda Galal's paintings is divided into two very important periods of her life.

2020-2021 is where art of distant times and isolation took place. It was a challenging and unexpected year where fortunately, for some, art had a place. It gave artists, just like Amanda, the chance to express their version and perception of the pandemic, lockdown and isolation.

Through 2021-2023 Amanda’s drastic life changes took place where she moved to Amsterdam, London, Paris. Her inspiration only flourished and evolved her paintings into the new series "Stories of Struggle ad Survival", which is exposed for the first time here in Corfu.

The paintings here have in common the solitary symbolism and anticipation to be "Set Free", to be in control again, to adjust to new realities - perhaps many can relate to. The art here depicts that period of her life. A stage where comfort and liberation seem to be replaced by physical and psychological struggle in order to settle.

BIO
Amanda Galal
lives and works in Paris. She grew up and lived between Athens and Cairo and completed her Bachelor's degree in Athens at the TEI of Graphic Design and Visual Communication and her Master's degree in London at the London College of Communication.
For the last decade she has been working in the advertising and design industry and has distinguished herself with a number of award-winning projects. However, the limited creativity that characterizes the commercial industry, gave birth to Amanda's need to never stop expressing herself through her innate talent for painting.
In her paintings she captures her environment, her identity, her own representations, inspired by everyday life, infused with her Greek-Egyptian culture and heritage.
