WHEN THE WHALES WHISTLE

The Corfu International Festival in collaboration with the Black Sheep theatre group presents the performance "When the whales whistle" on Sunday 19 November at 20:00 at the Studio of the Municipal Theatre of Corfu.

Once upon a time somewhere not near, but not far, in a totally authoritarian regime, not quite the same as the one we live in but not quite different, six women escape with a makeshift raft.

And just when "you can't see the city", just when they think they've escaped, their will will be tested by facing their worst enemy... nature itself.

This is a contemporary play, presented for the first time. Written in a dystopian setting where the boundaries between comedy and tragedy are thin. The story unfolds through the friendship of six women. With funny conversations and inner quests. Inspired by Aeschylus' "Icetides" which poses timeless questions such as:

What is the value of human life without freedom?
How many sacrifices is the human being willing to make to live it without a bridle?
What are the limits of human endurance in the face of the elements?
Where does humanity begin and end when our very lives are at stake?

Hope is the most powerful concept in the history of humanity. Its existence can change the trajectory of the earth and its absence can lead to the abyss. The heroines in our play "hope" and we are with them from the beginning to the end of the perilous journey they have dared to take.
