JAZZ EVENINGS

The Corfu International Festival in collaboration with the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, which this year celebrates 30 years of operation, organize at the Ionian Academy a three-day event open to the public, with an air of jazz.

Professors, lecturers, alumni, collaborators, music ensembles, selected students of the department as well as selected guest artists join forces and present three main concerts combined with three smaller events.

Jazz melodies and imaginative improvisations compose the ultimate soundtrack for the "initiated" or not.

Below is the programme of events:

FRIDAY 28 OCTOBER 2022

The evening begins with Voices in Jazz. The Department of Music's vocal ensemble, choir and jazz ensemble present a program full of rhythmic jazz and pop sounds performing compositions by Duke Ellington, Johnny Mandel, Michael Jackson and others. The vocal ensemble and the choir are conducted by Dimitris Ktistakis and the jazz ensemble by Dimos Dimitriadis. The programme continues with the jazz ensembles of the Department of Music Studies.

SATURDAY 29 OCTOBER 2022

Dimos Dimitriadis Quintet - Songs in Revolution. Dimos Dimitriadis presents excerpts from his works Dream Modes and Jazz in Revolution. He is joined on stage by an ensemble of internationally renowned musicians, Andreas Polyzogopoulos, Petros Klampanis, Yannis Papadopoulos and Nikos Thessalonikeus. Following the event , the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a jam session with the participation of students and faculty of the Jazz Department under the direction of Dinos Manos and Dimitris Angelakis.

SUNDAY 30 OCTOBER 2022

Flying Jazz Trio. The trio of Professor Stephanos Andreadis, with the participation of Professor Giorgos Kontrafouris and teacher Vassilis Podaras, in a program with selections from his recent discography, Abel, Flying Jazz, To Eternity and Nostalgia. The three-day event will conclude with music from the new album by internationally rising vibraphonist and collaborator of the Department of Music Studies, Dimitris Angelakis, "Long Way Home" with the DIMITRIS ANGELAKIS QUARTET.
