KYNOPIASTES PHILHARMONIC BAND

The Music Groups of the Philharmonic Bands of Kinopiastes & Gastouri, inextricably linked to the tradition of the island of Corfu, present two concerts (13/08 courtyard of the Church of St. John of Kynopiastes and 20/08 Central Square of Gastouri).

The concert in the courtyard of the Church of St. John of Kinopiastes is given in order to honour the memory of the great and first conductor of the Kinopiastes Philharmonic, Vassilios Kritikos. The work of the teacher is well known to the inhabitants of our village, as it is to the people of other villages where he taught music and ethics, contributing decisively to the implementation of the vision of the establishment and operation of four provincial philharmonic orchestras of our island. Dozens of young people from these orchestras, with only the musical knowledge they received from Vassilios Kritikos as a weapon, served and many of them made their careers in the musical corps of the Armed Forces and the Security Corps of our country during the difficult decades of immigration.
